Having some pudge on you isn't harmful but in America where most men are overly obese are using the statements of 'BMI doesn't measure fitness levels, look at the powerlifters' yet they don't go to the gym at all and sleep with a CPAP machine.Īs a dude who doesn't fit anywhere within the bear community (visible minority, not hairy, not fat), I deal with being excluded from their social circles just as much as the fat dude at a twink circuit party. I like fat dudes myself but I'm not going to deny the amount of evidence and research that has been done about how obesity causes heart attacks, diabetes, etc.
I don't believe in the bullshit of fat =/= unhealthy or BMI indicator =/= health status. This is discouraging to someone who is trying to get HEALTHY. I've seen obese friends on Facebook losing weight and his 'bear' friends telling him 'Wow, good job on the weight loss, but you should stop here.' or 'You were hotter when you were 300lbs.'.
You hear people about how someone has put on weight, they've let themselves go, etc but nothing is more disturbing than seeing that same thing reversed. The bear community openly shuns fit/skinny/twinks through thin-shaming and can be just as bad as the other side of the fence, with the only difference that one side is more likely to have health complications.
